2021 National Court Reporting & Captioning Week

The National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) has designated the period from February 6-13, 2021, as National Court Reporting & Captioning Week. This will be the ninth year that the event has been held. This year’s theme is “All you need is love and steno.”

Court reporters create written records to reflect testimony that was given in legal proceedings. Captioners make spoken information accessible to people who are deaf or hard of hearing by translating it to a written form.

Benefits of a Career in Court Reporting or Captioning

The goal of National Court Reporting & Captioning Week is to note the advantages of pursuing a career in one of those fields, including competitive salaries, flexibility, and the ability to do interesting work. In addition, court reporting and captioning jobs don’t require a four-year degree.

Organizers noted that the fields of court reporting and captioning rely on the work of humans. Those jobs cannot be replaced by artificial intelligence, which means that court reporters and captioners may enjoy greater job security than those in other professions. The fields have been seeing a growing number of employment opportunities, with roles both inside and outside the courtroom.
